Sophie MacCorquodale
Sophie MacCorquodale is an artist from Greater Manchester, now living in London, who works primarily with video. She was a runner up for the 2004 BT New Media Award, Manchester Art Gallery and won the 2006 Crosby Homes Manchester Art Prize, an annual award for outstanding new talent.
Her film ‘Waiting for the Day’ was created in the seaside town of Rhyl, North Wales, and combines documentary footage with constructed fictional scenarios. Juxtaposing themes of escapism and pleasure with vulnerability and decline, the work captures the nostalgia and romanticism of a once thriving holiday destination and contrasts this with the reality of actual experience when faded grandeur meets day-to-day deprivation.
