Fresh FM
Fresh FM is Greenwich’s first young people’s radio station and is led by and for the young people, working with APE Media, GLYPT and a range of local organisations/schools.
Young people aged 13-19 from Greenwich, many of disadvantaged and BME backgrounds, learn how to set up and construct their own programmes and present their own shows. Along with technical skills, they learn invaluable research, communication, interviewing and team-building skills working towards recognised qualifications. Fresh FM broadcasts live via an internet station and FM broadcasts. On the web-site you will also find pre-recorded packages based around issues that matter to the young people; e.g. what it’s like to grow up as a child in care, or why some young people prefer to listen to gospel instead of rap.
In December 2010 the young people presented a showcase of their best work at Greenwich Young People’s Theatre and they are currently working on developing new skills in research and campaigning. In 2011 they hope to find new ways to allow their voice to become a voice for positive change in the community. Stay tuned and check out the web-site to get the real flavour of Fresh FM!
