The Peninsula Papers - a serialised novel
The Peninsula Papers - a serialised novel
The Peninsula Papers is a new project by artist Lucy Harrison, commissioned by Stream as part of our Peninsula Programme. Local residents are invited to contribute to a collaborative serialised novel set in East Greenwich and the Greenwich Peninsula, with contributions ranging from suggestions for a character or location, to ideas for a new storyline or plot twist, to the writing of the next chapter in the tale.
The project's title was inspired by Dickens' The Pickwick Papers, a novel which was also published as a serial, and whose last chapter takes place in a pub at nearby Shooter's Hill.
Over the next few months, Lucy will be working with groups of local residents, including children, parents and staff from Halstow, Millennium and St. Joseph’s primary schools and residents at Sam Manners sheltered housing scheme to develop their contributions to the novel.
Although fictional, the story, characters, locations may be rooted in actual experiences. As the individual chapters are written they will be published online and in printed form to be distributed around the area. The culmination of the project in Spring 2011 will see The Peninsula Papers published as a book, in print and digital format.
