A - X

A new performative project which revealed the hidden poetry of the Peninsula and East Greenwich, giving voice to local people through dramatic and witty interventions in the urban landscape.

Artists gethan&myles talked to hundreds of people of all ages in East Greenwich and the Peninsula, inviting them to playfully reflect and muse upon the area. Their words - beautiful, sad, uplifting and funny - were displayed on a pair of solar powered dot-matrix LED road signs, as these commonplace pieces of road-furniture became the voice of the people and were transformed into performative, sculptural objects.

Over the summer the signs were installed at the East Greenwich Pleasaunce, East Greenwich Jetty and Central Park, performing in conversation with each other and with all those who encountered them.

Animated by the words of local people these performances provoked and amused those who come across them, as did the incongruity of encountering road signs in unexpected locations.
